Hi Paula,

I'm from Brazil. I've wrote you some e-mails already.
I'm doing a work similar to what you have been doing in USA.

I’ve just published a Book, "detetive da Beleza" = Beauty Detective.
You might think I'm crazy. Well, maybe I’m really crazy, because I pay to publish the book with my own money. I hope to get back my investment.

But the truth is I just start to inform the women here about how the cosmetic industry can manipulate and so on. I have a blog: http://detetivebeleza.blogspot.com/

I’m trying to advertise my book. Some radios and TV station do not want to talk with me. They say: The cosmetic company pays our bills, we do not want to make them unhappy, can you believed? And Brazil is the third cosmetic consumer Country in the World.

By the time goes on, I admire your work, how brave you are.
Because in Brazil, only a crazy person like me to decide to do what you’ve been doing for about 25 years already.

I was kicked out from a Company’s office once. So I’ve learned the lesson, to make a phone call first, instead go to the place by myself. And so many unpleasant situations happens, like the professional people: manicures, hair stylist, beauty therapist, they do not like what I‘m doing. They use to say I’m too honest with the customer.

But there is good news. The cosmetic consumer loves what I’m doing. The people I can sell the book at least, like it.

Before I forget, I’m using a lot of your information; of course, I’m mentioning you in my bibliography references.

So, I’m writing this to share with somebody else my thinking.

Regards,

Lucia Fagundes.

Hi Paula,

My name is Lucia Fagundes.
You probably have received my e-mails already.

I'm a Beauty therapist here in Brazil, and guess what? After read your wonderful books, and agree totally with what you write related to the exaggerated claims about cosmetics, I decided to publish a book. I use some of your resources; of course, I mention you in the references, even I’ve send an e-mail to you, asking for permission, you gave it. Thank you very much for that.

The problem here, is the language, nobody knows English, and the way Business is done in Brazil, to be honest, is not much straightforward the way it is, in U.S.

You might asking why I’m telling you all that?

Because after I publish the book, I start to admire you even more.
It is so hard to inform people in an objective way, Oh My God!

The cosmetic industry here behaves
like a God for some cosmetic vendors.

Even now I keep saying to myself,
was really the right time to do this in Brazil?

Anyway, my books are already in the book stores,
well, to those ones who accept it.

My question to you is: It was so hard for you in the beginning?

Many thanks,

Lucia Fagundes
