Workplace No-NoThese are more of the questions a business reporter asked me about myself and how I run my businesses Paula’s Choice and Beginning Press and my answers.

What three to five tips do you have for other women CEOs or women managers?

Assuming we’re talking about small businesses as opposed to huge corporations, which I know nothing about, they would be:

  1. Don’t sacrifice you’re maternal instincts. It’s okay to create a warm, caring work environment and nurture people (women have more oxytocin then men so use it!).
  2. Definitely be a micro-manager, it isn’t a dirty word, the work place is like a family and if you don’t pay attention to the details things can get out of hand. You aren’t a queen sitting on high, get in there and help, share your thoughts and skills.
  3. It’s okay to cry (happy or sad).
  4. It’s okay to laugh until your sides hurt.
  5. Don’t be afraid to look beautiful but not “sexy,” that is bad business unless you’re a model or celebrity.
