I bet this reporter is young. Ask any teacher of young adults, and I think they will confirm this observation based on my experience as an esthetics teacher: today's young adults tend to view scientific research and other bodies of knowledge as opinion - no more valid than their own opinions. (I once had an absurd argument with a student over the molecular size of mineral oil. In her mind, molecular size is a matter of opinion!)

Yikes. As an editor myself, I cringed reading this. Unfortunately, there is so much wrong with what we're calling journalism these days.

As someone who's been in journalism for 20+ years, I'm a bit suspicious of this "reporter." I have worked with tons of reporters, and I find it hard to believe a legit reporter, even if ignorant or biased, would argue with her subject like this. It defeats her whole purpose, which is getting quotes she can use. Is there any possibility this was a PR person for Estee Lauder, trying to trick Paula into saying something positive about their product?

Was she really from CTV Paula, like in the picture??? ha ha.... the network is a well respected one in Canada. You'd think that your conversation with the reporter would have given her an idea as to how the story should really go...

Thanks for sharing that interview. This is the reason I've given up reading beauty magazines. The makeup advice is horrible, and it's clear that the editorials are taken directly from corporate press releases. Beauty editors are just people who get free stuff and then write nice things about that free stuff. Nice gig, but not worth reading.
