Lynda, if you are capable of reading, the article clearly states that she was NOT taking pictures! Not sure why you put "writing things down" in quotes like it's some kind of nefarious activity. And prices can be found on ulta.com, so I'm not sure why you wouldn't be "allowed" to write them down (like you need permission from some random little snot working in a store). Also, Ulta corporate clearly doesn't agree with this policy, so you can only get in trouble (and possibly fired) by obnoxiously telling customers that they're not allowed to write stuff in the store.

Well, Lynda, if that's truly the case then you should talk to Ulta corporate, because they aren't on board with this policy beyond not taking pictures, which my co-worker wasn't doing. What is wrong with Ulta and the people they hire? And why should we continue shopping in a store that has so little regard for its clients?

Ulta does NOT allow what you were doing. Pics, "writing things down", 'writing prices down ect is NOT ALLOWED and it is stated in their employee manuals. We are trained to look out for this in the stores.

Daynah, I am so sorry for the way you were treated. That's not professional at all. I have never heard of such bull from any type of store. I've been a licensed professional in the hair industry, and am rather appalled by anyone who acts like that. But unfortunately, I'm not surprised. Too many people these days do not know who to give customer service and act professional. I have never had a problem when people came in to where I worked and they took notes about products. I think it's a good thing. Because I have always tried to educate my clients. And after i got hurt and can no longer do hair, I got calls from the girls I worked with. They told me my clients were mean. All I could do was laugh at them. They weren't mean, they just wanted to be talked to and treated like they mattered, not like a dollar. And that's one thing that is missing in the customer service industry. Is to treat people like they do matter and are more than a dollar sign; and most people don't get that. So don't give up or give in. Bad word goes around faster than good word does. And that doesn't mean that the store has to go down, just the people working in them. They need to be held accountable for what they do or don't do. And in corporate America, if they don't know where it's broken, they can't fix it. So let them know and know that customers have a voice and dollars, or lack of them, can affect profits. Good luck and stand your ground!!!

I will no longer shop at Ulta after reading this. I am a Bare Minerals user and I usually buy at Ulta, since they are the only store to carry locally- but I will order online from now on.

Im sorry that this happened to you!
I work for an Ulta in TX and to be honest if my district manager had heard of this she would have fired the general manager. In my store not only are you more than welcome to take notes but we even offer to take them for you and have detailed note pages. Again I am very sorry. I will say that people shouldn't judge every store by one experience, I've worked at two different Ulta locations and neither are like the one described here. In addition we actually are extensively trained in the products, and most of us are gives samples so that we can try them first hand and therefore have an even better understanding. Again I am sorry.

Hello!!! I just stumbled upon your blog (Great site) and I am mad and outraged. How dare this woman tell you what you could/could not do in ULTA. She was so out of line and plain wrong. I can't wait to read what happened next.

Sephora would never treat its clients like this!!!! Never!!!!! I work for Sephora, and tried to work for Ulta once, back in 2002. I got injured @ the store during shipment, and they didn't pay me for the work, I did for months. Sephora, spends a lot of money and time, training their teams. Sephora's teams elite, and Ulta's people could never measure up. If you came into my store, I would have helped carry your things, make some samples for you, offer color consultation guide, with all the items you were interested in, wrote down their prices, and gave you 1 of my business cards for anything you wanted; for a later day. You can't go wrong @ Sephora. We are The Beauty Authority, The Friendly Authority, The Educated, and The Caring Store. We love our clients, and will do anything to earn business, and keep it.

Glad you got some money, for all the trouble you experienced.
