I tried with fake lashes for several years before finally getting it right at a mac product party. I use outer edge false lashes and that has made all the difference. But they only come out for special occasions.

No false lashes for me.

I use the Maxfactor false lash effect mascara in waterproof black.

And I do not need false lashes.

I use Bimatopost (Lattisse/Lumigan) and my eyelashes grow so extraordinarily long- sometimes I need to trim them. I add a touch of Cover Girls Lash Blast mascara and the effect is like wearing false lashes but better because they are
(unnaturally) mine. Strangers often ask me if I'm wearing false lashes. It's an excellent product. :)

Definitely - great tips. Choosing just outer-lashes is so much easier as it's super-tricky to get false lashes to curve with your entire eye if applying them on yourself. Plus strip/full lashes become obvious if you extend them too close to the inner corner of the eyes. That's also where they sometimes peel off if not applied well and look über-obvious. I've seen that in wedding photos - so sad!!! It ruins the whole look. So I agree with sticking to outer lashes only!
Also, you can apply 'flares' which are little clusters of 7 or 8 lashes at a time. This may take longer to get the same result but allows you to build up the fullness gradually if you want to take it slow. I did this on myself the other week and they stayed on for about 4 days, until I removed them with waterproof makeup remover.
