I've experienced this with many products, seeing as I'm a devout silicone lover I usually seek products that have them.

My thought is, just like oil removes oil, silicone removes silicone. They both create slip and helps things move. If I apply a primer on top of moisturizer and then silicone-rich foundation, I only seem to have a problem if the primer is one of the new water-free or waterless ones (I love Laura Mercier's new one, it has antioxidants so I'm adding a skincare slant and is fragrance free and very mattifying). My thought is that the water in the product lessens, off course, the concentration of silicone, making it less likely to be wiped away and look like strange cakey little balls.
I still love using these new waterless primers though, so what I find works is: I target them to what I want smoothed most, which are my large pores and then pat, rather than smoothing with a foundation brush, over the area and it looks perfect.
Or powder foundation, when I choose to use it, seems to eliminate this issue entirely.

I have tried 4VOO Distinct Man's concealer as I get a bit of acne and dermatitis around my chin. It works really well however make sure you choose the right color! http://4voo.com.au/corrector.htm

I just stumbled across this site. This company does makeup and skincare for men. Completely overpriced but I thought you may find it interesting. http://4voo.com.au/index.html

Thanks for the blog suggestion about men wearing makeup!I will keep this in mind, though from my experience most men won't talk about whether they do or don't. I'd love to survey our male customers and see how open they'd be to this topic!

I agree with Diana- an article on men and makeup would be great. I have worn makeup everyday since I was a teenager (less in summer, more in winter). It would be interesting to hear other peoples opinions on men wearing makeup.

Bryan, you should seriously write a blog entry about men and makeup. It seems to me it's all or nothing - either men wear none, or, when they make a public appearance, they wear layers and layers of artificial-looking, orange spackle. Is there a way to find a happy medium? The reason I'm asking is because my father has rosacea, and has had makeup professionally applied to conceal it, but it always looks theatrical. This probably doesn't happen to you. Any advice?

Wow! Talk about perfect timing! My email just alerted me that this post came in, and I'm right in the middle of searching for "line fillers/line plumpers/line erasers/line miracles" etc. for daytime use around the eye area. I'm hoping to find something light, for daytime use, that smoothes the area around my eyes and offers some camouflage/color-correction. Previous to your post, I hadn't heard of Good Skin TriAktiline, but now I will definitely consider it. I had been on the verge of purchasing Colorescience Eyes Wide Open, but you've reminded me to look carefully at ingredients, so I need to see if this is embellished with useless aromatics. I don't use a separate eye cream, (I've used Paula's Choice Moisture Boost Treatment Cream for my whole face for many years), and I had honestly forgotten that some product lines put fragrance in their eye treatments. Fragrances tend to sensitize my eyes, just as you described your eye irritation. You saved me some $$ + a possible "return" shipping headache. Thank you thank you!
